About Neotropin

Neotropin (somatropin [rDNA origin] injection) is used to treat children with growth failure due to very low or no production of growth hormone. It is also used to treat children who have short stature assosiated with Noonan syndrome and Turner syndrome, for treatment of children with short stature born small for gestational age with no catch up growth by the age of 2 - 4 years, and to treat adults who do not make enough growth hormone.Neotropin is the Molutech brand of somatropin, a polypeptide hormone of recombinant DNA origin. The hormone is synthesised by a special strain of E. coli bacteria that has been modified by the addistion of a plasmid that carries the gene for human growth hormone (hGH).Neotropin is administered by injection just below the skin. It is given using a very short, thin needle. This makes the injection more comfortable. Only very small amounts of Neotropin are injected and the injection is over very quickly.
